God Save The Internet

I found these in a VoodooPad document I wrote a long time ago, in which I was thinking about startups. I'm not sure whether they're all true or not, and they're in no particular order (even though they're number).

Being too busy is not good. Having some buffer time increases quality, responsiveness, creativity, endurance, and enjoyment.

At any given time, focus on as few things as possible.

Always start simply.

There are always more opportunties and ideas.

Business can be fun because it's a competition, and winning is fun. And, even better, it can make a difference to people and the world, and also because it can bring you security and nice things.

Good people want to kick ass. Join forces with good people and let them.

Take the long view.

You know what to do next. You don't have to know what do to after next, because you will when you get there.

Think big.

There are few things more important than where you put your attention.

Measure. Machines are better than humans at knowing what is really going on inside machines and can even be helpful in figuring out what's going on inside humans. Make them tell you and make better decisions.

Pretty much everything is about user experience.

A better work environment leads to a better customer envionment (product). A better work experience leads to a better customer experience.

Making money is good. Even when you don't have to.

Make it easier to do the right thing than the wrong thing. (Reduce the sin gap*.)

Things that make for healthy people often lead to healthy companies: balance, good communication, breathing, grooming.

"Call me Navid. Some years ago--never mind how long precisely, nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world." The previous quote, a bit modified, was from Melville’s Moby Dick, as some of you might have noticed. Since the quote, ever so perfectly, captures my state of mind while having left my home country and exploring the New World, I decided to have it as the opening sentence on my blog.

It is more challenging to create a blog about oneself than it seems at first. People tend to say some peculiar things when they describe themselves or their lives; some try too hard, some make fools out of themselves. I will try my best not to make the same mistakes, however, also remember that reading this is voluntary.

Say that again?

I have been told that I have a colorful personality and perhaps that is why my friends have given me more nicknames than I can remember. A-Man, Ivy's Bitch (if you were not there, never mind), Party Animal, Ali, Dostum, and Smooth are some of the ones that I recall at the first hand. As you can probably guess, each nickname has its own saga to go with it. However, for those who are not familiar with the stories, "Navid" works fine.

Foremost, I would consider myself a very modest person. Nevertheless, if I would absolutely have to promote myself, which certainly should be the case when writing one’s own homepage, I could borrow some of the adjectives that my friends have used when describing me: "friendly, unique, fun, lovable, talented, cute, crazy, sexy(hadi be), honest, romantic, elegant, likeable, smart" among some others:))
I could go on and on telling you about my childhood, my future plans, and so on, but before I will do that, in my first version of my blog, I would like to pay tribute to all the wonderful friends that I have around me, here at Turkey. I share many incredible memories with these friends and I am looking forward to many more adventures, as I will be preparing myself for the final stretch in completing my degree. My friends are one of the most important aspects of my life and I try treating every single one of them accordingly. "Treat others the way you want to be treated" - my motto. I wish that more people lived by my motto. and I like to thank my love,Selin...<b<>r>Finale

My goal of life is to try experience all the wildest things in life (defining "wild" is up to you) and never look back or regret about anything. Having said that, continue browsing through my web site and you will understand...

To be continued...
